Morris Mitsunaga, MD
Dr. Morris Mitsunaga is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in spine surgery. In addition to spine surgery, Dr. Mitsunaga’s professional interests include orthopaedic fracture and trauma care, total joint replacement, arthroscopy, and orthopaedic sports medicine.
Although orthopaedic and spine surgery technologies are continually advancing, Dr. Mitsunaga’s goal is to approach every patient’s care with the same core principle: “What can I offer this patient, surgical or nonsurgical, to help minimize their pain and maximize their function?”
Dr. Morris Mitsunaga completed his internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Prior to his orthopaedic training, he attended Creighton University in Omaha, NE for his undergraduate degree, and completed his medical degree at Creighton University School of Medicine.
Dr. Morris Mitsunaga has been an eminent leader in the world of orthopedic surgery in Hawaii for decades. The legacy of his contributions to the field of orthopaedic surgery will live on through all the residents and young surgeons he has trained over the years. His pioneering contributions to the field of orthopaedics in Hawaii include introducing the kyphoplasty spine procedure to the islands. With his two sons, Dr. Kyle and Lance Mitsunaga, carrying on Dr. Morris’ work, the “Mitsunaga” name has become synonymous with “spine surgery” in the islands.
Dr. Mitsunaga stays up-to-date with all the advances in the world of orthopaedics and spine surgery as a member of several professional organizations including the AOA, AAOS, and NASS. He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA), a prestigious organization comprised of leaders in the orthopaedic community. Fewer than 6% of practicing orthopaedic surgeons have become AOA members. He is also regularly selected as one of Honolulu Magazine’s “Top Doctors in Hawaii.” In addition, he has been selected as “Outstanding Physician of the Year” by the Queen’s Medical Center, an honor that is bestowed upon only two physicians each year.
